Recently, a fresh crop of “fancy” restaurants focusing on taking us back to our roots has been penetrating the Lagos dining scene. Establishments like Ile Iyan, Afefeyeye, and Jollof by Jara are striving to offer a more holistic dining experience with our local cuisine, and I, for one, am completely here for it.
Lokito, nestled in a condominium complex in Lekki, is the newest addition to this cadre of Afrocentric restaurants. Barely over a month old, Lokito was reportedly inspired by its founder’s desire to craft a space that's evocative of his childhood in Port Harcourt.
In keeping with this vision, the restaurant is intent on selling nostalgia, complete with décor that could easily be from an old Nollywood movie set, and traditional Nigerian meals served in the kind of vintage plating you’d only encounter at your grandparents’ house.
As of now, this restaurant doesn’t have a fixed menu, so if you decide to visit, you'll only be able to savor the specials of the day, penned boldly on a blackboard. Based on what we've observed, a meal at Lokito falls within the N5000—N6000 range.
At the bar, you can also relish a cup of fresh palm wine for N1000, classic ogogoro, and your usual alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Lokito also hosts “Calipso” nights on Fridays, where you can be serenaded by Akwete music while savoring peppered delights.
The restaurant is open from 12 noon to midnight on Tuesdays through Sundays, but here's a piece of advice: If you're planning on visiting, the Google Maps location of “Lokito Restaurant” is misleading. It's best to head straight to Primewater View Garden 2 and locate the restaurant without the assistance of technology.
