Meet the 8k Sandwich You've Been Sleeping On

When I’m not thinking about paying bills, where exactly this country is headed or what to watch on Netflix, Flowershop Cafe’s Sourdough Turkey Cranberry Sandwich is what’s on my mind.

As I previously admitted, their Caesar Salad has me in a chokehold and it’s the best I’ve had in Lagos; I have it every time I go there. My sister, on the other hand, swore by this turkey sandwich so much that to finally get her off my back and to be honest, out of my own curiosity, I had to try it.

I love burgers and sandwiches, but when it comes to meat fillings, chicken is usually my top preference and turkey isn’t really a close second. Because of this, and because I was comfy in my comfort zone with my salad, it took me a while to order one of these sandwiches for the first time, but when I finally did, I was surprised by just how much I liked it. I liked it so much I’ve been back a few times after that just for the sandwich.

Smoked turkey, cream cheese, ‘homemade’ cranberry chilli jam and Rocca leaves make up Flowershop Cafe’s Turkey Cranberry Sandwich. It comes in three layers, which I think is brilliant. The turkey slices are nicely placed within each layer of the sandwich and slathered with a generous amount of cranberry chilli jam, which acts like a kind of binder of all the flavours. Plus, it’s also quite nice that the jam is made in-house — it adds to the paparazzi of it all, and tastes darn good.

Layered alongside it is a bed of fresh greens — essential for a good sandwich and adds just enough balance to confuse the calories.

Now, let’s take a moment to talk about the sourdough bread, with its crunchy crust and soft centre. It’s the perfect canvas because it gives the entire thing flavour that no other kind of bread can. And not to be a health nerd or anything, but aside from taste, naturally-fermented sourdough bread is better for your body than regular white or whole wheat bread, for a variety of reasons. And then finally, gently holding everything together is quality melted cream cheese.

Another thing I love is that this sandwich, as a whole, is extremely juicy, and this adds to the overall richness and worth-it-ness of it all.

While perfectly substantial on its own 👑, the sandwich is served as part of a meal, with a side of scrummy fries and ketchup. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
