Cheap Eats: 5 Under 5k Restaurants to Try Now

In this economy, where 5k is the new 2k, finding a decent restaurant to get a good meal for N5,000 or less is as likely as walking into Beyoncé at an amala joint — rare, but not impossible. This post will help share some great places you can eat within the 5k range. Don’t say we didn’t do anything for you this week.

1. 411 Restaurant

5 Amodu Tijani Close, Victoria Island

The first on our list is this restaurant and bar in Victoria Island. 411 offers a fairly exciting menu of African and “continental” (think English breakfast and creamy pasta) food at very decent prices. You’ll also find things like club sandwiches, peppered grilled chicken and even noodles and eggs, if that’s your thing.

It’s a comfortable place to eat, with a lounge that has an outdoor deck.

2. Ofada Boy

1 Mba Street, Surulere

Our next stop is Ofada Boy. This restaurant offers different types of traditonal Nigerian soups, grilled meat and of course, pretty epic ofada rice and sauce. One really cool thing about this spot is the palm wine; it’s served in a keregbe format (from a gourd).

The aim of the Ofada Boy brand, as a whole, is to rekindle our love for indigenous Nigerian food. And for under N5,000, you’re pretty much guaranteed (touch wood) a good meal and a full stomach.

3. Native Tray

19 Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase I

South-South people, get in here 👏🏾 If you love southern food (like the Nigerian south, y’all), this is a great place to try. Native Tray serves up indigenous meals like Calabar, Ijaw, Urhobo and Igloo soups, alongside a variety of ‘swallow’.

You’ll also find things like coconut rice, peppered beef and grilled fish on their menu. Pair one of these with their extra chilled zobo, and it’s a party.

4. KOS Lagos

17B Kusenla Road, Ikate Elegushi

KOS is a contemporary-style African restaurant, serving up good food at wallet-friendly prices. With different options — from village rice and yam pottage, to jambalaya rice and stir-fry noodles — there’s a little something for everyone. I also think it’s fun that they serve palm wine mojito-style.

Beyond the food, they’ve also infused a lot of African culture into their decor, to create a nice ambience.

5. Burg Co

11B Isaac John Street, Ikeja GRA

Burg remains one of the most affordable burger joints around, and it’s great that you can get a nice meal — a burger, fries and drink — here even on a lean budget. Also, in my opinion, the milkshakes here are still one of the best I’ve had.

Burg has both indoor and outdoor seating areas with decor that’s aesthetically pleasing, so it’s lovely for a first date or a casual lunch with friends.

Fact is, whether your budget is 100k or 2k, there’s always a restaurant for you in Lagos. So next time somebody moans to you about not being able to find affordable places to eat, send them over here!
