God bless the day salad trays became mainstream. There are so many reasons to love them:

  1. Something you can order relatively quickly, when you’ve gone to open your big mouth and invite a bunch of people over for Sunday lunch, without actually taking into account the effort it’ll take to produce a big meal for 12 people (oh, just me? 👀)

  2. They’re often more cost-effective than buying a bunch of salad bowls

  3. Let’s face it, they’re pretty to look at and perfectly Instagrammable

On one of the weekends when I was having a #1 situation, the universe connected me with Made’s Eats, a salad, sandwich and pure juice delivery service. Long story short? They’re whipping up is some seriously good stuff.

The head chef, Tejumade, makes a bunch of non-classic, scrumptious salads that are perfectly enjoyable, but what has so far managed to keep me in a chokehold is the rustic salad. It starts off with what you would typically expect — a medley of shredded lettuce, carrots and cucumber — and then takes it up a notch or two with grapes, raisins, dried fruit and nuts, coconut shavings, eggs, you-name-it.

It’s one of those salads that you can enjoy even if you’re not a salad person, because the textures and flavours balance each other out and come together quite beautifully — a little sweetness here, a kick of savouriness there and tons of crunch, which I *looove* in a salad. For me, this makes it feel more like a meal (if I choose to have it that way) than just a veggie or chicken salad, and feels way more filling.

Perhaps what I love most is the attention to detail — both in presentation (which makes it a really nice gift to show up with/have delivered) and quality. Every time I’ve eaten a salad from Made’s Eats, I’m never disappointed with the freshness of the ingredients, which is crucial, because I’ve had packaged salads in Lagos that look and taste like they came from the back of the store’s fridge.

If you’re a drizzler, have no fear, the tray comes with lots of yummy dressing on the side to bring a nice harmony to the whole thing, and if not, it’s still a tasty salad you can enjoy with a hungry crowd.

Not into salads, no matter how unconventional? Made’s Eats serves up healthy sandwiches, juices and quinoa-based meals. Try it for yourself!
