Am I the only one who craves certain things on a particular day of the week? *crickets* For some armed robbers people, it’s semovita at the weekend, while for others, it’s a particular kind of cuisine they’re longing for mid-week, like Mexican food. I fall into the latter category, and when I’m craving tacos, I only want the best.

El Padrino

where: 256 Etim Inyang Crescent, Victoria Island

It would be a shame to have a list of top Mexican food restaurants in Lagos, specifically for tacos, without including El Padrino due to their pioneering status. They offer a wide variety of taco fillings, including goat meat, chicken, fish, beef, and vegetarian/vegan options, all served with great sides. Additionally, because their menu is primarily Mexican, they serve tacos every day.

So, even if it's not a Tuesday and you're looking to branch out from the usual Indian, Chinese or Ofe Aku options, you can visit El Padrino.

Pro tip: Order their zobo — it’s premium.

Potakos

where: Landmark Beach Compound, Water Corporation Road, Victoria Island

There are a few hidden gems that serve delicious food at Landmark Beach, and Potakos is one of them. If you're feeling down and looking for a day at the beach, keep an eye out for their stand amongst the crowded food vendors and try their tacos, which are available as a single taco or an assortment of three.

Circa

where: 2 Kola Adeyina Close, Off Jerry Iriabe, Lekki Phase I

The only “fine dining” restaurant on this list, Circa, offers a starter of a trio of tacos on its menu. While the restaurant doesn't primarily cater to Mexican cuisine, their interpretation of tacos is quite well done in terms of flavor and taste. Although the portion is small, it gets the job done.

Ooh, and their taco with a shrimp filling is 👌🏾

Toasties

where: 113 Awolowo Road, Ikoyi

Toasties holds a special place in many hearts, including mine, for their delicious bao buns and personal favorite, the Pork Belly Twist sandwich. However, that's not why we're here.

Every day, Toasties has a special menu and on Tuesdays, that menu includes a selection of 2 or 3 tacos with a variety of fillings and other Mexican-inspired accompaniments. Additionally, their delivery service is fast, so if you're craving tacos, I'd definitely recommend ordering from Toasties.

According to the Internet history of Taco Tuesday, it was started in 1982 by a restaurant chain called Taco John’s, based in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Soon after, other restaurants latched onto the name and started running with this idea. Taco John’s eventually tried to place a registered trademark on the phrase in 1989 to attach it to their brand, but it eventually led to a lawsuit and caused bad press, so they dropped the case.
