The Best Food Eat.Drink.Lagos Editors Ate This Week

At Eat.Drink, we get to enjoy lots of great food that sometimes doesn’t make it on the Reviews list. So, we thought, what better way to honour these scrumptious nibbles and meals than with a bi-weekly post? Here’s a round-up of the very best of what the gang’s been eating lately.

SUNDAY, 17TH APRIL

What: Grilled catfish

Where: Cubana Hut & Grill

Location: 15 Isaac John Street, Ikeja GRA

Price: N10000

This catfish is done beautifully. It’s flaky, very well seasoned and ends up sitting pretty in its own delicious juices (from the roasting). We had this with chunky slices of fried yam, Cubana’s house pepper sauce and Smirnoff Ice.

What: Lamb chops & mashed potatoes

Where: HSE Gourmet

Location: 25 Babatope Bejide Crescent, Lekki Phase I

Price: N18500

The lamb chops were super yum, tender and juicy, and the mash was rightly done, with no lumps, just creamy deliciousness. The veggies on the side were also well seasoned and still crunchy (say NO to soggy veggies).

MONDAY, 18TH april

What: Waffles & bacon, with ice cream and a caramel macchiato

Where: Pause Café & Espresso Bar

Location: 1 Bisway St, Maroko, Lekki I

Price: N9000

The waffles actually tasted like waffles. There was also a scoop of ice cream to go with it, which I didn’t expect, and although I low-key ordered this glass of caramel macchiato for aesthetics, I really enjoyed it!

WEDNESDAY, 20TH APRIL

What: Ghana Jollof (we can explain)

Where: Capitol Café & Restaurant

Location: 5th Circular, Road 19, Cantonments, Accra, Ghana

Price: GH₵ 120

On an emergency day trip to Accra, we had to make a quick stop for Jollof — and Capitol does it well. It was a perfect balance of sweet and spicy, and fiery red, just the way we love it. Also got delicious chicken wings with stir-fried peppers and onions to go with it, and a scoop of chocolate ice cream.

If you happen to be in Accra any time soon, stop by!

THURSDAY, 21ST APRIL

What: Chicken Combo Box

Where: Grind Grill Café

Location: 5 Chief Bamidele Eletu Road, Osapa-London, Lekki

Price: N4000 - N5000

This combo box comes with grilled chicken, potato/sweet potato fries and corn (+ a pepper 🥵 sauce), with the option of a cheesy beef burger and fried chunks of sweet potatoes, as an alternative to the fries. It’s all pretty yum and worth your coins.
