#HeySweetie: This Cake Slice from Sticky Sweet Bakehouse is the Best Way to Spend ₦3,000 Right Now
Thanks to the cake and confectionary space in Lagos, our muffin tops are expanding and our wallets are shrinking. When I’m not thinking about my bi-weekly dose of Hans & René’s pistachio ice cream or a Nutella croissant from Maison Kayser, I’m gathering my coins in anticipation of the next @stickysweetbakehouse sale. They’re usually impromptu, so it’s a fastest-fingers game, but so worth hunching over my phone for.
I have many favourites here, including the apple pie, Belgian-style waffles and double chocolate chip muffins (there are *nooo wordsss* for how good these are!), but the cake slices get a standing ovation every time. I’ve never been very keen on complicated desserts, with layers and layers of icky sweetness (because I’m a simple gal), but Sticky Sweet understands how to do decadence without overwhelming you.
One of my favourite signature cake flavours has to be the chocolate mousse and salted caramel. First of all, salted caramel anything just works, y’know, being the flavour of the decade and all that? The thickness of this ganache is balanced off nicely with layers of light and fluffy whipped chocolate mousse that really should be a solo item on the menu (I just want to order a tub, grab a spoon and dig in). The chocolate cake itself has depth, moisture and real flavour — none of that Milo chocolate cake business. We don’t do that kind of struggs over here.
What I love most? The consistency. I had my last binge just a few days ago and it was just as good as the last time, and the time before that. The long and short of my story is: Try it ASAP, will ya? Then come back and testify! 💋
