New Restaurant Alert: Chapter Lagos

Recently, I got invited to a private tasting at Chapter Lagos, a new Indian fusion restaurant in Lagos.

Yeah, Indian Fusion. That’s not something you run into every day in Lagos. According to the head chef, Chef Harsh:

“Chapter is a new leaf to modern indian. We take local ingredients of Nigeria and blend it with Indian spices. The whole idea of Chapter is basically making Indian food inspired by the culture and spirit of Nigeria.”

The tasting, curated by Of A Kind Creatives, had us trying a bunch of different stuff from the Chapter Lagos menu: Ginger Chilli Fish, Lasooni Chicken, Prawn Pepper Fry, Tadka Chicken Wings, Pulled Lamb Tacos, and Basil Garlic Naan.

One thing about Indian food is how they use spices. It’s my absolute favourite thing about it and my eyes just kept popping as the food came out. The Ginger Chilli Fish, in particular, was my favourite. It was tender, spicy and the dried ginger strips gave the fish its crispiness.

Before I get into the other stuff, I should probably shout out their Spicy Mangorita — an absolute hit! Every single person on the table ordered another glass. I had four, in fact.

Back to the food.

Next up was the Lasooni Chicken. Super crunchy, but a bit on the dry side. I wish it came with a dip on the side or something. A bit “meh”, but it looked good.

The Prawn Pepper Fry was a clear favourite of the table — not mine, but it was still up there for me. Just like the name suggests, it was basically prawn drowning in a pepper sauce and it all worked together very well. The Pulled Lamb Tacos and Garlic Naan followed. Both weren’t bad either but it’s hard to say much because the tasting portions don’t go a long way. It wasn’t dodgy naan though, have to give them that.

Overall, I thought Chapter Lagos was pretty decent. Although I’d like to give it a proper visit and actually explore the whole menu. You can check them out at Level 4, 1623 Saka Jojo St, Victoria Island.
