Ever heard of puff puff ministry? It’s a food business in the UK, basically taking puff puff to another level — with exciting toppings, nice packaging and that kind of jazz. I found out about them a little over a year ago and thought how cool it was that there were people now doing really fun things with puff puff. It is one of the best sweet treats in the world, so why the heck not?
So, a few days ago, when I saw this post about The Puff Shack in Lekki, I thought: Finally, we can get some of that action. For 3k or under, you can get a box of 12 decent-sized puff puff balls in 4 variations — Classic (plain), Cin City (cinnamon sugar,), Oh-Reo (Oreo) and Cuffed (Biscoff sauce and biscuits). There’s also the Power Puff combo box option (I went for this), which is a medley of all four flavours.
At first glance, this puff puff delivers on looks — *perfectly* golden brown, with an adequate-looking amount of topping, sitting neatly in the box, and even pretty enough to gift a sweet tooth in your life. An idea would even be to charge extra for gift boxing with a different, nicer kind of packaging… but that’s not why we’re here.
Taste-wise, it has a little bit more of a doughy texture than I’d typically prefer (I’m a straight-up fluffy-roadside-puff-puff-at-8am kind of gal), but on the upside, the flavouring and balance of sweetness are done quite well. With all the sugary additions, I was a bit worried it’d be sickly sweet, but they did a good job making these just right. If you don’t mind the slightly denser texture, this won’t be a big deal, but it’s definitely worthy of note.
Of the four flavours, my favourite has to be the Cin City (cinnamon sugar) because cinnamon is a superior spice and, as far I’m concerned, gold dust. It elevates everything it touches. I’m also big on simple sweets (you’ll never catch me making an overly complicated ice cream order or eating a double fudge oreo/cookies and cream brownie with salted caramel drizzle 🤦🏽♀️), so I enjoyed the easy pleasure of these.
Although I had them right there and then, so I could taste them in their “premium” state, I actually enjoyed them significantly more about 20-30 minutes later on the drive home. I 100% agree that a lot of food needs to sit for a while for its best flavour to come out, but I always thought anything with dough was best eaten fresh. That wasn’t the case here, so if you do try it, feel free to wait a while.
Overall, I’d give my experience a 7/10
Bottom line: At one point, I caught myself thinking: Why am I paying 3k for 12 puff puff?! But sometimes, it’s as much about food being fun as it is about it being nice to eat. And this was fun.
