Piping hot buns, fluffy delicious brioche, crumbly baguettes; there’s something about freshly baked goods that is pleasing to all the senses. The smell of the dough filling the room as it rises intricately, the satisfaction of the warmth melting on your tongue as you dig in. Here are 6 places to find freshly baked goods on the island.

XO Bakery

48 Balarabe Musa Crescent, Victoria Island

This cosy spot is probably the top place to find artisanal baked goods in Lagos. Almost croissants, ciabatta loaves, biscotti-filled doughnuts; the bites here will leave an impression on your taste buds. The decor in the small interior is pleasantly quaint; although you’ll probably have to grab your goods to go, or eat outside. You can have a quiet breakfast, or a late-night snack with some of their speciality brewed teas. Some of their baked goods do require a 24 hour pre-order.

Cactus

20-24 Ozumba Mbadiwe, Victoria Island

Cactus is one of the OG brunch spots in Lagos. One thing they have managed to remain consistent with is their baked goods. The delicious display features croissants, along with colourful cakes and tarts. Their chocolate éclairs and chocolate croissants are a favourite. Technically not baked, the churros from their food truck are also a must-try.

Marcelino’s Pastry

1C Ozumba Mbadiwe, Victoria island

Tucked away in Victoria Island is this cute café. They have an assorted selection of sweet treats every day; cookies, strawberry shortcakes. They’ve got freshly made bread loaves every morning, and their burger buns are pretty good too.

Maison Kayser

9 Osborne Road, Ikoyi

Now, Maison Keyser is a connoisseur of Parisian baked goods;  but their Lagos outlet can fall a bit far from their famed reputation. If you can get past the wonky service, their baguettes are pretty great.

Love Brioche at Samantha’s Bistro

7 Rumens Rd, Ikoyi

Prepared to be overwhelmed by choice, because Love Brioche has a lot of options to choose from. Asides from their heavenly brioche (of course), they’ve got buttermilk doughnuts, hummingbird bread, and a great range of vegan treats. Some of their speciality loaves require a 12-hour pre-order, but you can walk in and find a great assortment - including daily made fresh buns.

Hans and René

3 Admiralty Way, The Lennox Mall, Lekki Phase 1

Hans and René is known for being the pioneer of gelato in Nigeria. They’ve also got a decent selection of baked goods to go with those brain-freezes. While their donuts could spend a little more time in the oven; the cupcakes are perfectly moist (when they are fresh) - you should probably order more than one.
