ChatGPT Answers: "Where is the Best Place to Eat in Lagos?"

For those of you who have lowkey been clamouring for us to bring the Bot back or having arguments about which restaurants *actually* reign supreme in Lagos, the Internet’s new favourite A.I. toy, ChatGPT has a couple of thoughts (if you’re not yet quite sure what ChatGPT is or how it works, this article will break it down quite nicely for you).

We decided to give it a whirl and see what — if at all — recommendations the chatbot would come up with. To the question of if we’d take the suggestions seriously: There was great doubt, because taking advice from a human I don’t know on the other side of the world on where to eat is one thing, while following guidance from an algorithm is something else entirely.

It was an interesting experiment, nonetheless. In its exact words, here’s ChatGPT’s verdict:

“Lagos, Nigeria is known for its vibrant food scene and there are many great places to eat depending onyour preferences. Here are some recommendations:

1. Terra Kulture: This restaurant offers a combination of traditional and contemporary Nigerian cuisine, along with live music, art exhibitions, and theater performances.

2. Nkoyo: This restaurant offers a fine dining experience with a menu that combines traditional Nigerian dishes with a modern twist. The restaurant also offers a great view of the Lagos Lagoon.

3. Yellow Chilli: This restaurant offers a fusion of Nigerian and other African cuisines, as well as international dishes. The menu includes seafood, meat, and vegetarian options.

4. Eko Hotel: This hotel has several restaurants on site, including Sky Restaurant and Lounge, which offers a stunning view of the Lagos skyline, and Red Chinese Restaurant, which offers authentic Chinese cuisine.

5. Bungalow Restaurant: This restaurant is known for its grilled seafood and meat, as well as its cozy outdoor seating area.

These are just a few of the many great places to eat in Lagos, and there are many other options depending on your budget and taste preferences.”

What was even more interesting is that a minor change in the punctuation of my keyword phrase (“nigeria” instead of “Nigeria”) slightly altered the bot’s response.

Rather than Yellow Chilli, it suggested RSVP as a third option — something we can definitely get behind — and Sky Restaurant and Lounge, while the first two options remained the same.

Bottom line: Take ChatGPT’s advice at your own risk. A much better bet would be to catch up on our latest Reviews and make better decisions.
