8 Readers Reveal Why They Said Goodbye to a Favourite Restaurant

Adulthood is often a time of letting go. That could mean waving off old friendships, having to relinquish nap time, and sometimes even, saying adios to the restaurant closest to your heart. For these EatDrinkLagos readers, the latter may have hurt them most — because in a world that’s constantly demanding the most of you, the one thing you can surely hope to hang on to is your favourite taco joint, for Heaven’s sake.

Alas, the only constant thing in life is change. And for these 8, here was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

THE TIME WHEN PIZZA WEDNESDAY BECAME JUST ‘WEDNESDAY’

For @ms_luchi, a much-loved tradition turned sour when the restaurant stopped paying attention to detail and churning out undercooked meals. “l used to go here for their Pizza Wednesday but after two raw dough experiences, I had to say goodbye.”

THE TIME WHEN THE ECONOMY GOT IN THE WAY

@chito_____ had enough when her favourite spot kept switching up the prices, in a way she (and so many of us) just couldn’t keep up with. “They became unrealistically expensive.”

@folapeperempe simply said:

THE TIME WHEN THE CULPRIT WAS BAD SERVICE

For @kolamoradeyo, @enitanlagos and @isiekwemarian, a once great relationship was severed by one of the most common restaurant service issues — a bad waiter. Enitan said, “It was the bad customer service for me”, Kola was in total agreement, while Marian shared an unpleasant experience where the “customer service was so wack that we had to leave. I can’t beg to be attended to.”

THE TIME WHEN only THE FOOD was to blame

There’s nothing worse than when a treasured restaurant starts to drop the ball on the food (or drinks). I mean, it’s literally the main reason you came there. @fruttilicious says, “the food quality dropped and I dropped out.”

THE TIME WHEN IT BECAME EVERYONE’S JOINT

Finding (what you consider) your little haven in a corner of Lagos and then having it taken over by Instagram baddies and content creators is sometimes enough to put you off that spot for life. That’s what happened to @idedet, who simply stopped going to the place she loved because “it became too popular and noisy.”
