Best in Lagos: 7 Seriously Cool Places to Enjoy a Hearty Breakfast

Breakfast is one of my favourite things in the world for several reasons:

  • I like food and it’s the first meal of the day I get to eat, so YAY ☺️

  • You can’t put it in a box; breakfast remains a versatile queen

  • Breakfast birthed brunch. So, case closed.

I’m really glad we’re past the days where hotel buffets or slightly mediocre family joints offered the best breakfast options in Lagos. More and more restaurants and cafes are serving up really quality meals — some of which you can even enjoy well after noon.

Here’s a round-up of where we, at EatDrink, love eating breakfast right now:

SLoW

Where: 2 Musa Yar' Adua Street, Victoria Island

Tolani: “This lamb shakshuka confirmed my firm belief that there is no true happiness without good food. I was sold on the first bite. It’s everything a hearty breakfast should be, really – a fresh, yummy pita bread, nicely-done eggs, a tasty sauce, plus the addition of tender, beautiful lamb.”

HSE GOURMET

Where: 25 Babatope Bejide Crescent, Lekki Phase I

Love: “HSE might be popular for serving generous quantities of wholesome comfort food, but in the mornings, you’ll find an impressive menu of breakfast staples like eggs and French toast. Winning the EDL Restaurant Of The Year award twice in a row also means these guys know what they’re doing.”

Godaïf Village

where: Casa Asmarina, 26B Turnbull Road, Ikoyi

Tolani: “For the star of the day, it had to be the English breakfast. I’ve had the typical toast, eggs and sausages over and over but this tasted different. It was *literal* perfection. The bacon was nice and crispy, the omelette was yum, the sausages were just right — this was my favourite meal.”

Deli’s Cafe

where: 1291 Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island

Love: “Since its transformation, Deli’s Cafe has developed a rather impressive breakfast and cafe service, with fresh pastries and decadent hot beverages. The prices could be a little less heavy, though.”

flowershop cafe

where: 274 Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island

Margaret: “Not only is Flowershop Cafe Instagrammable, but the food is legit good, and they have a very simple all-day breakfast menu. The bread is also great and if you don’t mind a messy meal, you should try the burrito. I hope they’re wrapping it on both ends now, sha 👀”

Pause

where: 1 Bisway St, Victoria Island

Iroro: “The waffles actually tasted like waffles. There was also a scoop of ice cream to go with it, which I didn’t expect, and although I low-key ordered this glass of caramel macchiato for aesthetics, I really enjoyed it!”

PANCAKE HUB

where: 17 Jibowu Street, Jibowu-Yaba

Tolani: “Whenever I’m on a budget, I always hit up Pancake Hub. The ambience of the place is a big zero, but they know what matters when it comes to satisfying my stomach.”
