5 Things That Could Happen When Burger King Opens in Nigeria

Early this year, Burger King announced plans to enter the Nigerian market in the last quarter of 2021.

We laughed, we speculated.

With Nigeria’s already struggling hospitality industry (and overall economy if we’re being frank), it seems wild that another global player has plans to enter the market - while their counterparts are offloading assets.

Still, we could really use a fast food burger chain. The gourmet burgers are great, but refuel burgers sound like a great deal. Here are things that could happen when (if) Burger King comes to Nigeria:

1. You Get a Burger, Everyone Gets a Burger

One way to capture the Nigerian market, especially with relatively new offerings?

Do giveaway!

Krispy Kreme had Nigerians camping overnight for free sugary goodness. The early days might see an abundance of buns for all of us.

2. The Naija Touch

If you don’t add rice, suya, or something extra spicy to your menu - are you really serious about doing business in Nigeria? Cheeseburgers sound great, but they’re going to have to bring their A-game to capture the Nigerian market.

(You heard it here first, there’ll probably be Akara involved).

3. Hitting the Streets

If Dominoes and ColdStone can hit the streets, who are they? They can keep it bougie and do pop-ups instead, I guess. But, if they do the Akara thing; it’s the perfect product-market fit.

4. A Sprinkle of Aesthetics

If all else fails, they might try to price themselves in the premium division (eyeing a certain French food chain in Lagos). Maybe their chains will be designed to be insta worthy instead of investing in the juiciest patties. We all know Nigerians love a good photo op

5. An Unlikely Merger

Dominos and Coldstone have a beautiful deal going. Mr. Biggs and Deboniars recently announced their visually unsettling merger. Maybe we’ll get a Burger King and Labule partnership.

Burgers with yam fries sound like a vibe, honestly.

While we’re on the topic of burgers…
