We Ranked Pizza Toppings From Best To Worst

Pizza, the popular Italian dish has crossed oceans and continents to become one of the most popular fast foods in the world. As it crosses locations, it’s transformed to suit local tastes and preferences, but at its core, the cheesy, saucy crust remains the same.

Here’s a definitive ranking of popular pizza toppings you’ll find in Lagos from best to worst.

Meat Lover’s

Bacon, suya, sausages, mushrooms. Your doctor’s definitely giving you the side-eye for having more than one slice but you deserve it! It’s everything.

Ranking: A heart attack worth having.

Peri-Peri Chicken

You may not understand what makes peri-peri different from other chillies, but you can admit it’s in a league of its own when it comes flavouring food. Throw it on a pizza crust and ignite some delicious flames.

Ranking: It’s Nando’s on a pizza, premium stuff.

Pepperoni

The timeless classic gets a stink eye from pizza critics because “it’s not really Italian”. But we say it’s the safe go-to pizza, whenever you are. It would take a really joyless pizzeria to mess this up.

Ranking: An international superstar.

Peppers (Mexican)

The blend of spicy jalapeños, slightly bitter green peppers and subtly sweet and sour sauce will elevate any cheesy pizza base.

Ranking: It’s the pizza that plays fun games with your palette.

Margherita

With this simple topping, it’s either a hit or a miss depending on the pizzeria. It can either taste like an overload of tomato sauce, or what you’ve been looking for your whole life.

Ranking: It’s like playing Russian Roulette with pizza, you can’t always be sure of what you’re getting. Who really wants that?

Anchovies

Anchovies get a lot of hate on pizza. You’re probably thinking, “why would anyone put canned fish on pizza?”. But with great quality anchovies, you get an amazing umami flavour that is difficult to replicate with any other topping.

Ranking: Don’t knock it till you try it, but have some mints handy.

3-Cheeses

Depending on where you go, this usually consists of a blend of mozzarella, parmesan and cheddar. You may not believe it, but it takes a true culinary genius to layer the flavours perfectly to achieve that perfect cheesy blend, otherwise, you’re left with a gooey mess of cheese with barely-there flavours.

Ranking: Quite average, but the ultimate dream of a lactose intolerant deviant.

Pineapples

You really thought this guy would get a pass? It doesn’t matter how many people love this atrocity, it shouldn’t exist. Some of you even throw on avocados…? This cannot be happening.

Ranking: Half of the human population clearly has malfunctioning taste buds.
