7 New Restaurants To Visit In Lagos This December

Editor’s note: Back in March, when we still had hope, we shared a list of restaurant openings to look out for when the lockdown ends. Well, after the lockdown in August, many promising new restaurants remain closed like Slow due to the impact of the pandemic. In fact, Nosa and Folly could not review as many restaurants as we’d like this year for the first time ever.

Now, as outside is wide open in spite of COVID-19, we’ve compiled an updated list of new restaurants to check out in Lagos in anticipation of whatever’s left of Detty December.

Again, this list is not an endorsement of any of these establishments. Any reviewed restaurant will be hyperlinked.

Detty December might not be the same this year but at least there’s food. 2020 happened and the coronavirus killed any hope for Christmas rocks in Lagos.

It didn’t help that restaurants were forced to transition to takeout services for survival. Many new restaurants like Slow which opened earlier were forced to temporarily shut down for most of the year.

Thankfully, outside is open and these new spots are still standing today in spite of the year.  Because you deserve some fun after a truly exhausting year, we've listed some new restaurants open in Lagos.

1. Pitstop

What to expect

A bike-themed bar with a vegetarian menu and offerings for guests looking for a ‘fit-fam’ dining experience. It’s important to note that Nosa and Folly didn’t really have a great time here sha. And their food do be pricey.

2. Casa Mia

What to expect

In case you didn’t get the chance to try Casa Mia before the lockdown, they’re now open for dine-in guests. The launch earlier in the year was a big celebrity affair in Lagos, and it just might have something to do with their shisha.

3. The Signature Lounge, Lekki

What to expect

Okay fine, The Signature is not a new establishment, it got a facelift and a new menu this year. A subsidiary of FilmHouse cinemas, Lekki, the newly-improved lounge is now headed by Chef Imoteda of Atmosphere Rooftop and Heels In The Kitchen.

4. Lacibo

58, Ogunlana Drive, Surulere

What to expect:

Lacibo is barely a month old and their Instagram account has already amassed over 2k followers. If you’re looking to try a new burger spot on the mainland, you should stop by.

5. Turaka Lagos

1637, Adetokunbo Ademola, Victoria Island, Lagos.

What to expect

A rough English translation of “Túraká” can be “to relax”. The restaurant is one of the food services at Mo Abudu’s recently-launched EbonyLife Place in Victoria Island. We get a lot of “which restaurant can I propose at?” messages in our DMs. Well, the rooftop view will be amazing in the 'she said yes' pictures.

Norma

What to expect

Will Norma be the northern grill Lagos deserves? Looks like Sooyah Bistro finally has competition, as Norma also offers northern Nigerian-inspired meals like balangu mash, an interesting dish of balangu with mashed potatoes. There’s also a breakfast platter and rice dishes on the menu, because what’s a Nigerian menu without rice? They’re currently only offering taking delivery and takeout services.

7. Koi Lagos

Alhaji Babatunde Jose Road, Lagos, Nigeria

It’s hard to determine if this Koi is in any way related to the other Japanese restaurants of the same name in Abu Dhabi, Bangkok, South Africa, and the US. If this is truly a franchise restaurant, then you should quickly visit for Japanese cuisine before the Lagos struggle catches up to it, as it has with other franchises in Lagos - we didn’t mention any names sha.
