In food news, Sushiholic and BBQholic merged and had a soft opening over the weekend, and we got invited. I was looking forward to it mainly because I was excited to try out their sushi menu — and also get the chance to eat some steak, yay ☺️ — so, I put on my Sunday best, bone straight intact and off I went.
In addition to merging, they also got a new location at Delakes Mall in Lekki, which looks lovely and feels cozy. It’s also easy to locate, so there were no worries there.
Let’s kick off with the service
From the second I walked into the space until I left, the servers were at my beck and call. They were all smiles, the service was so fast and efficient, and the food just kept coming out. However, it’s worthy of note that this was a soft launch; the real test of their customer service will come 6 months down the line.
They also have a nice bar area, where you can have your meals as well, and I loved that.
To the food 🚀
I originally thought we would be treated to a mix of the sushi and the barbecue menu, but it turned out they served you from one or the other (depending on your vibe I guess?). The servers began to show up with several items from the bbq menu and although I’d been looking forward to the sushi, I wasn’t mad at all.
First up, we were served the rocket salad which had walnuts and parmesan slices, and it was genuinely interesting; not a bad starter. Next, they served us flank crostini. Tbh, I saw this on the menu before I came and was secretly hoping they’d serve it, so I was very pleased that they did. The meal was made up of thinly sliced flank steak on a freshly baked baguette, with cream cheese and chimichurri sauce, garnished with cherry tomatoes — ALL of which *slapped*.
The porcini mushroom steak that was put in front of me was cooked to perfection, but what blew my mind was really the mushroom sauce (I swear there’s some kind of Crack in this thing, no one can convince me otherwise). I also had creamy mashed potatoes, which, in all honesty, I think was unnecessarily garnished and a little too thick. It wasn’t the one for me, but I must say that the plating for this dish was really quite nice.
On to the classic beef burger; I have to give it to the chef and their crew 👏🏾 The patties were very flavourful and perfectly cooked, the veggies were crispy and the buns were soft and delicious. All together in one word: YUM. To follow, I had their creamy cajun wings (deep-fried chicken coated in a creamy cajun sauce). Let me explain the experience like this: When I tasted these wings, I think I might have hit the table in a dramatic fashion 😂 All the flavours came together beautifully and it was an actual party in my mouth.
Next up was the Jack Daniels wings, which came in a quartet (that’s 4 pieces for the olodos). They were good, but a little too tangy for me, so I’m thinking whatever sauce they used after frying it overpowered the Jack Daniels flavour they tried to infuse. With the wings, we had French fries and yam fries, and these particularly stood out because they were still crunchy even when cold. I loved!
For drinks, I ordered 2 glasses of red wine and my guest had 2 double shots of whiskey, both of which hit the spot, and the evening ended with a Blondie dessert, which was a rich vanilla deep-dish cookie, with white chocolate chunks, vanilla ice cream and a caramel topping. It was di-VINE; a sweet tooth’s actual heaven! Interestingly, my favourite thing had to be the caramel sauce.
In my opinion, the merge is a really cool idea because there are options for everyone; if you don’t want/like sushi, they have great burgers, steaks and the like. No one has to feel left out.
Postscript
I highly recommend Sushiholic X BBQholic; the best part is the variety!
Parking
As the restaurant is in a complex, parking isn’t terrible.
