How Well Do You Know Your Johnnie Walker Whisky?

Whisky is a generic name to some people, but to most, it represents a fine drink of Johnnie Walker scotch whisky. You might know the brand, but do you know the story? Johnnie Walker might be an internationally renowned name now, but it started as a small enterprise in John Walker’s grocer's shop in Kilmarnock, a town in Scotland. John had the brilliant idea of blending the single malt whiskies he had on tap to create a unique taste that soon became very sought after in his town, but it wasn’t until his son Alexander took over after his death in 1857 that the foundation for international export was laid.

Alexander, a savvy businessman like his father, launched the first commercial brand ‘Old Highland Whisky’ and then did something unprecedented: he engaged ship captains to carry his blend of whisky wherever they sailed, gaining international exposure for the brand. He also created the famous square bottle (to reduce breakages during sea transport) and the distinctive slanted label.

Passed onto his sons, it wasn’t long until the brand firmly placed itself in global culture, gaining popularity with stars all over the world. This quality earned the brand a royal warrant from King George V in 1934, one they still have till this day.

Johnnie Walker Red Label

The most popular Johnnie Walker whisky is the Red Label Whisky, a classic that has its origins in the first 'Old Highland Whisky'. This pioneer blend is created from whiskies originating from the east and west coast of Scotland. It bursts with smoky, classic whisky flavour, enhanced with notes of vanilla, cinnamon and zesty spice. At less than N5,000 for a bottle here in Nigeria, it is the best-selling scotch whisky around the world, perfect for parties and social gatherings.

Johnnie Walker Black Label

The Black Label is the second Johnnie Walker classic, with that peaty taste that is unique to Johnnie Walker. True whisky enthusiasts will appreciate the luxurious touch of vanilla and tropical fruitiness that offsets the deeper toffee tone of this whisky, finished with the smoky haze true enthusiasts have come to expect of the finest Johnnie Walker whisky. Black Label is aged for at least 12 years for the deepest, best flavour and complements your favourite cocktail, creating an unforgettable whisky experience.

Johnnie Walker Green Label

Aficionados can take the experience of the Johnnie Walker Black Label a step further with Johnnie Walker Green Label, an intense blend that racks up the flavour note on the whisky you love. Take in the smoky accents and the rush of flavour from the raisins, apples and orange hints that come through with every sip of this full-bodied whisky.
